Construction Progress at Saale River Bridge Salzmünde

29. August 2024

Technically demanding large-scale project for Halle town-bypass

Motorway A143 is currently expanded. It will close the gap in the motorway belt around Halle and Leipzig and relieve the city of Halle from trans-regional through traffic. The construction project is a 21.6-km-long, 4-lane new construction. The 9-km-long section of A143 from Halle South until junction Halle-Neustadt has already been operated since 2004. The part connecting in the north has been under construction since December 2019. Construction is processed in five lots, and SSF in joint venture with the construction supervision has been contracted for lots 4.1 and 4.2. Construction lot 4.1 includes the Salle river bridge consisting of a noise protection tunnel, the river bridge, foreland bridge, retaining walls as well as traffic sign supports on the bridge an in the tunnel. Lot 4.2 comprises the glass enclosure of the river bridge and the noise barriers on the bridge. Construction works at the large bridge progress rapidly. Currently, the superstructure is advancing by one 40-metre-long section per week. Each Friday, 560 cubic metres of concrete are cast. The first eight components for the steel bridge arrived on site. The around 25-metre-long and up to 60-tonne-heavy parts are now joint and welded together. For their assembly, a 300-tonne crawler crane (LR 1300) was mounted.
