2. Main S-Bahn line

Centrepiece of the railway expansion in the Munich region

> 40
m building depth

The stations of the 2nd main S-Bahn line will be the deepest in Germany.

Remedy for the overloaded local transport system

The 2nd main line tunnel runs via the three new underground stations: “Hauptbahnhof”, “Marienhof”, and “Ostbahnhof”.

Service areas

Object planning for civil engineering structures, structural engineering, feasibility studies, cross-discipline coordination within the engineering consortium, preparatory work for the finalisation of the approval planning for all three stations

  • Because several underground lines have to be crossed, the “Hauptbahnhof” and “Marienhof” stations are located at a depth of around 40 m and the “Ostbahnhof” station at a depth of 16 m
  • With only three stations, the new main line enables considerably shorter journey times. The introduction of an express S-Bahn system leads to attractive journey times between the surrounding area and the city
  • SSF Ingenieure plans the optimisation of the three underground stations – “Hauptbahnhof”, “Marienhof”, and “Ostbahnhof” – for the 2nd main line in an engineering consortium
  • At the main railway station, a “retaining body” is being considered for the future U9; this will allow the underground line to be realised at a later date as part of an integrated overall solution

With more than 450,000 travellers per day, Munich Central Station is the third busiest long-distance station of the Deutsche Bahn, where S-Bahn lines, trams, buses, and long-distance and regional trains converge. Europe’s largest public transport hub will be built here over the next few years.
