S-Bahn line in the centre of the city

Structure

Three tunnels, 12 bridges, 14 retaining structures, 16 noise protection walls, three transport stations, five platforms

The S 21 forms a second north–south line of the Berlin S-Bahn in the city centre. The new S-Bahn line will connect “Wedding” with “Südkreuz” via the central station and thus link the central station to the S-Bahn ring. SSF Ingenieure has been commissioned for the third construction phase, a 2.1 km long, two-track tunnel-bridge section between the “Potsdamer Platz” and “Yorckstraße” and “Yorckstraße/Großgörschenstraße” S-Bahn stations.

Planned route of the S 21

Route of the S 21

After leaving the “Potsdamer Platz” underground station, the line runs through the city centre via “Gleisdreieck” until it rejoins the existing line at “Yorckstraße” where it branches off into two sections. In the Gleisdreieck area, a new railway station with a traffic stop and connection to the underground will be built, and the Yorckstraße and Yorckstraße/Großgörschenstraße railway stations will be expanded and renovated.
