The building permit for the expansion of terminal 1, issued after only three years of planning, is another milestone towards the implementation of the new non-Schengen boarding gate at Munich airport. The design, shortly to be implemented, proposes a ca. 95.000 m² big and 360 metres long, transparent boarding gate, protruding as dynamic structure from the existing terminal and floating on a recessed base over the taxiway. General planning of the compact and flexible gate, which can still be adapted to changing requirements after its completion, is implemented by a joint venture comprising SSF Ingenieure, Schüßler-Plan, sop architekten and JSK Pszczulny & Rutz Architekci.
