Bridge Launching over the Danube

New railway bridge near Fridingen completed

Since January 2023, construction of a new railway bridge near Fridingen in east Baden-Wurttemberg had been in progress. The 130-year-old existing bridge had reached the end of its life cycle and was replaced by a new structure: a two-span steel truss bridge.

SSF Ingenieure was responsible for final design and had submitted an alternative offer for launching and lowering of the new structure, which avoided large and complicated pit works and water management measures at the assembly site. The abutment at axis 10 and the dividing piles at axes 20+30 including the superstructure at span 1 were launched and lowered. A massive mobile crane lifted the superstructure at span 2 onto the previously launched and lowered abutment axis 40 and the dividing pile.

In the middle of May, construction works were successfully completed, and the bridge has been opened for traffic.
