Expansion Föhringer Ring Road in Munich

Formwork construction on the truss structure

Föhringer ring road as a central east-west link is one of Munich’s most frequented traffic routes. Traffic prognoses predict that traffic will increase in the future. To meet requirements of growing traffic volume, the route is currently expanded from two to four lanes. Moreover, traffic management is improved by lengthening entry and exit ramps in view of a safer and faster traffic flow.

The four-lane expansion requires new construction of two bridges over river Isar and the Isar canal. Herzog-Heinrich bridge from 1962 will be replaced and additionally a new bridge be built.

Currently, the formwork truss and the formwork itself are assembled. In May, the reinforcement and tension cords will be placed so that in June the superstructure’s concrete can be cast.
