For the extension of the 15.7-km long urban section of the upgraded line Berlin - Frankfurt/Oder in the east of Berlin, SSF Ingenieure signed responsible for general planning until tendering as well as an early final design as part of a joint venture with EPV-GIV. The project comprised the new construction and replacement of 26 bridges (amongst them reinforced concrete frame structures, steel thick-sheet trough superstructures, tied arches and girder grids) and retaining structures, railway transport installations and affected roads including the parallel double-tracked regional train line and the renovation and replacement of four traffic stations.
Moreover, the project encompasses the planning of all railway related disciplines, a detailed construction operation planning, the drafting of all administrative contracts and railway crossing agreements as well as the establishment of a construction framework plan in consideration of monument protection requirements.
Construction while traffic was maintained required a comprehensive design of temporary constructions and to find innovative solutions such as a steel centre column erected during a close-off period for a series of temporary bridges, the launching of heavy superstructures on top of already existing new superstructures and the construction of a reinforced concrete frame with a thick steel plate girder.
